Founder member of a Local History Society, Jane is a recommended freelance researcher by the Essex Record Office. Pre-booked school, university and adult tours of the Norman Hedingham Castle are also her responsibility.

Jane has recently been involved in supplying historical data, used in filming at Hedingham Castle, to be included in a upcoming TV documentary concerning Richard II and Robert de Vere, 9th earl of Oxford.

Since beginning research into aspects of north Essex history twenty-six years ago, Jane has published twelve books under the Manors, Mills & Manuscripts imprint, the most recent of which are available through the 'Bookshop' link on this page.

Jane's speciality is the mid-to-late medieval history of north Essex - often fascinating, but seldom written about before - in the villages radiating out from Colne Engaine, but now concentrating solely on Castle Hedingham, seat of the de Vere family, earls of Oxford.

Richly illustrated with documents and old photographs, and bulging with genealogical information, these books are read worldwide by historians and those researching their family history. Material from private archives is reproduced, often for the first time, and includes details on many previously little-known people and buildings.
