Jane Greatorex is a research historian with twenty-five year’s experience, researching into, writing and publishing books on diverse aspects of history in thecounty of Essex, England. A founder member of a Local History Society, she has sat on several committees and is privileged to be a recommended freelance researcher of Essex history, by the Essex Record Office. Her speciality is early-to-mid medieval; manorial research and oral history, published in the Manors, Mills & Manuscripts Series, available through the online shop on this site.
Janes books are widely read by local historians and those researching into their family history. All titles are available via this website, are on loan from Essex Libraries and the Inter Library Loans system. They are available also for study at the branches of the Essex Record Office, Chelmsford and Suffolk Record Office, Bury St Edmunds. The larger format titles are available from Magnolia Tea Rooms, Castle Hedingham and the bookshop at Hedingham Castle itself.
These books describe aspects of life in the villages of Colne Engaine, Castle Hedingham and the abbey at Coggeshall. They are richly illustrated with genealogy, photographs, manorial and estate surveys. Much material from private archives is reproduced for the first time and includes details on many people and local buildings.
